KMS/KMC Tag Manager

Totally owning the fact that this may exist and I don't know how to access it, but I really need to be able to manage/edit/curate all the tags that may generated by given groups of people. We would to be able to limit/lock the list of available tags.

@chrismmurray , today there is no mechanism available that allows you as an admin to manage and curate tags. Tags can be user generated or generated through REACH captioning automatically (if you are using the "metadata extraction" option from your captioning configuration).
In this case, the closest you'll probably come is to create a custom metadata profile with any desired schema where you include selection lists for certain metadata. Then you can choose to make that schema optional or mandatory for publishing.

Sure... this is a tool we use at Epic to batch process complex and repetitive tasks. Things that don't have automation or reporting (or reporting that is manual for individual items, but you need lots and lots of them at once).
Example: in our LMS, for the purposes of localization, after we localize the course metadata (1 course = 5-12 modules, each module has a title and description, plus course title and description) , we have to manually duplicate the English courses, then copy/paste all the fields that have localized data. This a manual process that originally took days.
With automation we've dropped this to about a day/course(s).

We applied this same principle to the KMC to capture all the entry data of every entry into a CSV file. We can reverse the process to batch manage any entry data, including tags and categories.
There is a time element required to set up the original workflows, but once you have it... its repeatable and scalable.

Sounds like an opportunity to switch this into an IDEA proposal: Tag Manager in KMC

@chrismmurray one thing that comes to mind—which I realize is not a full-on solution—that may help you at least with the visibility of existing entries' tags: In the KMC, bulk select the entries for which you're interested in managing the tags (you could filter the entries to be those from a specific user or within a given category), then click the More Actions drop-down > Add / Remove Tags > Remove Tags. A box pops up that shows all the tags associated with the selected entries. (and of course you can delete tags here if you want.)

Yes, I've seen that... But that only shows given tags on one entry. I'd even be happy with a "tag" report. A downloadable CSV of all tags currently in use so I can begin policing them.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about.
1.) We're limited to viewing and selecting) only 250 entries max at one given time. I have +3000 and growing.
2.) Using the "Remove tag" feature on 250 entries show me this and, as expected, I have a problem. (Highlighted in red)
3.) "MetaHuman" is the one I want to keep. But if remove the other variants with this method, I have no idea which entries are now "untagged" This shows all the tags in play, but not all entries have all these tags. I have no way to tell which entry has what tag and vice versa.

So an update here. We used a 3rd party automation tool called "leap work" to achieve this report. Now we can pull reports of all the entries in the KMC with just about any metadata we want.

@chrismmurray can you share more details on "leap work" as it may benefit others to leverage a similar solution?
Thanks!

@chris I usually recommend my clients to upload a taxonomy upon account creation. Create a Draft Entry in KMC (via csv/xml upload probably easier) that contains all the approved/suggested tags. This way at least the auto-complete is pre-populated as users start adding content and they are less likely to misspell or use similar (but different) tags.

Great idea. We are well down the road, but with our automation we could probably pull that off.
